Penn Yan man charged with DWI, accused of leaving scene of property damage crash

Police report the arrest of a 53-year-old following a traffic stop on Bath Road late-Tuesday.

According to the Penn Yan Police Department, Erik Schuerholz, 53, of Penn Yan was charged with DWI common law, speed in zone, leaving the scene of a property damage crash, refusal to take a breath test, and unsafe backing.


Prior to the traffic stop- he was observed committing multiple traffic infractions on Lake Street. Around that time officers attempted to initiate a traffic stop.

At the same time, officers were dispatched to a property damage accident where one vehicle fled the scene. The drivers involved in both incidents were Schuerholz, according to police.

Once in police custody he refused all tests and was transported to the Yates County Public Safety Building. He was processed and released.
