The Wayne County Sheriff’s Office reports the investigation of a fatal crash involving two motorcycles in the town of Sodus.
It happened on Route 104 around 5 p.m. on Sunday, according to deputies, who say Michael Atlenburg, 48, of Cheektowaga was traveling west on Route 104 when he lost control of his motorcycle while braking for westbound traffic, which was slowing to turn south into a gas station near Pratt Road.
He then attempted to lay the motorcycle down- but was ejected- with his body colliding with the rear of another motorcycle.
Deputies say his passenger, Christine Maki, 48, of Cheektowaga was also ejected from the motorcycle. She was airlifted to Strong Memorial Hospital.
However, Atlenburg was pronounced dead at the scene due to his injuries.
Deputies say they were assisted by New York State Police, Sodus Fire Department, East Williamson Fire Department, Mercy Flight, and the Silver Water Ambulance.
