No injuries reported after Jungle fire in Ithaca

Police say around 1 a.m. on Sunday they were called along with other first responders to the area known as The Jungle, behind Lowes for the report of a structure fire.

Upon arrival, first responders located a large encampment engulfed in flames. Additionally, numerous small explosions- and an odor of chemicals was coming from the fire.


IPD prevented jungle residents from re-entering the area of the fire. The fire department extinguished the blaze- and found that at the time of the fire- the camp was vacant.

IPD located a number of propane tanks and other hazardous material at the scene. The fire has been labeled accidental, according to police, who say that an investigation into the incident remains active.
