Based upon the successful implementation of their Security Deposit Assistance Fund, Seneca Housing has received of an additional $10,000 in CARES Act funding which will allow them to continue assisting individuals and families in Seneca County. These funds are available to assist eligible participants and newly enrolled families of both the HUD Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher and Mainstream 5 Programs.
“Financing security deposits is always a challenge for low-income families and individuals. We are excited to offer this opportunity for assistance,” said Melissa Nesbit, Executive Director. Since mid-August 2020, Seneca Housing has paid out more than $27,000 in assistance.
Founded in 1972, Seneca Housing and has a long history of assisting Seneca County residents to live in safe, decent, affordable housing. Their baseline allocation from NY State Homes and Community Renewal continues to grow, which enables them to assist more families each year. In 2021, they were authorized to offer direct service to 473 families and indirect service and referrals to an estimated 1000 additional families. They work with more than 700 landlords, apartment complexes and property managers in Seneca County.
Seneca Housing will be hosting this year’s annual Veterans Housing Fundraiser, Masquerade 2021, at del Lago Resort & Casino on Saturday, October 23, 2021. A premier event in the Finger Lakes, the evening will include grazing stations, an open bar, live music, contests, auctions, and raffles.
