For Perkins School Reading Week June 7-10, the theme was showing kindness and featured activities both in person and virtual for pre-k through second grade.
June 7 featured the theme “We’re Crazy for Kindness” and students wore crazy socks and hair styles.
June 9 had guest author, Jerry Pallotta, who wrote “Who Would Win?” visit virtually. Students will each receive a signed copy of the book.
Guest readers read to students everyday which included school Superintendent Susan Hasenauer, Newark Mayor Jonathan Taylor, and Newark Police Chief Mark Thoms.
Students met their goal of reading 1,000 books and were treated with popsicles from the PTA.
A contest was held for students to create bookmarks about showing kindness and first-grader Adison Bean was announced the winner. She received a bundle of books as well as a copy of her bookmark being given to students at the school.
