Hornell prepares for summer activities as pandemic restrictions subside

Hornell prepares for a busy summer after the past year of the pandemic, and June 28 is a big day.

The Veteran’s Memorial Park pool will open Monday, June 28 and the City Summer Recreation Program will start the same day.

Beginning June 28, the Hornell Area Family YMCA will have the pool open Monday through Sunday from 12:30 through 6:30 p.m. for open swim. The baby pool will be closed Monday, Wednesday and Friday for maintenance.

Playgrounds at the Columbian School, Bryant School, Stephens Street, Madison Avenue, Maple City Park and James Street Park will also open the 28th and hours will be 9 a.m. through noon and 1 p.m. through 4 p.m.

This year the James Street Veteran’s Memorial Pool will be under the Hornell YMCA’s control until September 5.

User fees for the 2021 season are 50 cents per person for Hornell residents and $1 per person for nonresidents; YMCA members will not need to pay a fee.
