New report says Cuomo’s nursing home mandate remained in effect weeks longer than necessary

A new 242-page report is taking a closer look at the mandates instituted and defended by the Cuomo Administration around nursing homes and COVID-19.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo, who is facing an investigation over handling of nursing home death counts, is facing new criticism from a New York State Bar Association Task Force report.

It looks at the policies in nursing homes and long-term care facilities. Specifically, the executive order that forced residents with COVID to return to nursing homes despite still testing positive for the virus.

Two months later the policy was reversed, but the damage done by it, according to critics, could not be. The report said the mandate remained in effect weeks longer than it should have.

Gov. Cuomo has continued to defend the order, noting that he was following CDC guidelines.
