The Yates County Legislature has approved the hiring of a county assessor in order to help towns that can’t find their own.
The vote passed with an 8-5 margin.
The issue was brought up due to the town of Jerusalem being unable to find a property assessor.
One of the reasons for opposition was that there was not a contract between the county and Jerusalem yet. The county can now advertise to fill the position which will range between $70,000 and $100,000 in pay depending on healthcare as they work out a contract with Jerusalem.
