Schuyler County legislation calls on Cuomo to veto firearms bill

The Schuyler County government has called on Governor Cuomo to veto the legislation that would allow lawsuits against gun manufacturers whose weapons were used to cause harm even if bought legally.

Chairman Carl Blowers says the law would negatively impact the state’s economy, especially upstate where many businesses make and sell guns and accessories.

If passed New York would be the first state to allow civil suits against gun businesses.

The law would allow lawsuits against businesses that did not purposely harm the public and by forcing them to settle even meritless claims would reduce the employment opportunities that the small businesses provide.
