Fairport man convicted in Canandaigua murder will be sentenced today

The sentencing of a man who was found guilty of murder will be sentenced later today.

William Ricke, a Fairport man, was accused of killing Julianne Baker and stabbing attorney Dennis Gruttadar in Canandaigua. The vicious attack took place in January 2020.

Prosecutors say Fricke had kidnapped Baker and attempted to kill Gruttadar.

Fricke was ultimately found guilty of first-degree murder, first-degree kidnapping, first-degree burglary, first-degree attempted murder, and first-degree assault.

The entire incident took place at a residence on County Road 16 in Canandaigua on January 2, 2020. Gruttadar had to be airlifted for treatment.

Jim Gleason, a coworker of Baker’s, told RochesterFirst.com that she left an impression on everyone- and that now, work is being done with the Willow Domestic Violence Center and Baker’s family to organize an event this summer in her honor.

Fricke is still being held on no bail until sentencing.
