A nationwide contest resulted in The Commons in Auburn receiving 20 animatronic baby and puppy dolls for their patients with dementia.
The Auburn facility was nominated by resident family members and their employees to win the dolls from Pearl’s Memory Babies. They were one of three winners in the contest.
These baby and puppy dolls have statistically shown that dementia patients have an improved quality of life when being given something to care for. By providing dolls like this they are given something to care for without having to manage the care.
The dolls are matched to the residents based on connection they share, like the doll wearing a resident’s favorite color. Matching bracelets are given to the dolls and residents to help with recognition.
