Deputies: Huron mother accused of letting daughter skip 62 days of school, charged with child endangerment

The Wayne County Sheriff’s Office reports the arrest of a Huron woman following an investigation into significant time missed at school for a student.

Deputies say Karen Simpkins, 50, of Huron was charged with endangering the welfare of a child after allowing her 13-year-old daughter to miss 62 days of school.

Her daughter was placed on PINS, according to officials.

Deputies have also completed a number of home visits where the daughter was found home alone, babysitting another child, or playing with friends in the neighborhood.

Simpkins will answer the child endangerment charge at a later date.
