Bloomfield motorcyclist airlifted after driver fails to yield right of way

First responders were called to a personal injury crash in the area of County Road 30 and Cooley Road in the town of Canandaigua on Friday around 3 p.m.

Patrick Rutherford, 50, of Bloomfield was traveling west on a motorcycle along County Road 30; and Theodor Aeckerle, 84, of Newark was operating a passenger vehicle and stopped at the intersection with County Road 30.

Aeckerle proceeded to enter the intersection after failing to observe the motorcyclist. The two collided and Rutherford was ejected from the bike.

He sustained an array of injuries, according to deputies, who say that the Canandaigua Emergency Squad transported him to a landing zone where Mercy Flight transported the Bloomfield resident to Strong Memorial Hospital.

Deputies say Aeckerle was ticketed for failing to yield the right of way. Rutherford was listed in stable condition at time of update from law enforcement.
