A draft plan that recently received the blessing of the Seneca County Board of Supervisors will have its public comment period extended by the Department of Environmental Conservation.
That was the update that came down this week as the DEC said that the “Cayuga Lake draft Total Maximum Daily Load for Phosphorus in Cayuga Lake” public comment period would be extended.
Cayuga Lake was listed as an imperiled body of water in 2002.
The comment period will end July 8. Advocacy groups had asked for an extension.
A 30% reduction in phosphorous is needed to improve the lake’s quality and health.
