Hammondsport woman faces felony charges after welfare fraud investigation

The Steuben County Sheriff’s Office reports the arrest of a 58-year-old Hammondsport woman following a welfare fraud investigation.

Tracy Squires, 58, is accused of offering a false instrument for filing to DSS between December 2019 and March 2021.


Over that time Squires is accused of forging and submitting forms to DSS on multiple occasions to receive benefits that otherwise would not have been allowed.

Altogether, she received $1,728 in benefits, investigators reported. She was charged with felony offering a false instrument for filing, felony forgery, and felony grand larceny.

The charges will be answered at a later date.
