Wegmans is joining other stores like Target and Walmart to not require masks for customers moving forward.
This week new rules took effect in New York State aligning with Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidance, which indicated that fully-vaccinated individuals could forgo masking in most circumstances.
“In accordance with the latest CDC guidance, fully vaccinated customers are no longer required to wear a face covering in our stores,” a Wegmans spokesperson said.
The company is still working out final details for employees.
Some businesses have said that they will require masks for employees who do not get the COVID-19 vaccine. However, those decisions, like the decision to require- or not require masks is up to the operators of those businesses.
