Officials warn of DMV phishing scam making rounds through state

Steuben County Clerk Judy Hunter has been notified a DMV phishing scam is making the rounds throughout the state via e-mail.

While the state DMV would not text, they do use e-mail to communicate with customers, so it is important for people to understand that there are scams and what they need to look for.

Customers should keep an eye out for telltale signs of fake websites and phishing schemes such as poor spelling or grammar and the use of threats.

If the message does not feel right, chances are it is not. Customers can report suspected scams or phishing attempts to [email protected]ny.gov.

Additional guidance on how to protect yourself is available at https://dmv.ny.gov/more-info/phishing-attacks.
