Newark begins DRI application process with public forum to gather input

The village of Newark says it’s embarking on the annual mission of obtaining the $10 million award as part of the state’s Downtown Revitalization Initiative.

It will kick off with a forum for village leadership and members of the community to come together to talk strategy.

That forum is set for Tuesday, May 11 at 6:30 p.m. It will take place at the BOCES Complex on Drumlin Ct.

The DRI is entering its fifth round. In two-of-the-four previous years the Village has been a finalist. Last year, the Village was viewed as an early-favorite, but the pandemic shut down that process.

Funding from the DRI can support public and private projects that build on the vibrancy of a community.

Newark has identified key elements of its redevelopment strategy and is seeking input from the public. The forum will be a drop-in format where residents can stop in anytime between 6:30 and 8:30 p.m.

Social distancing, screening, contact tracing, and mask protocols will be observed.
