Poll shows Democrats & Republicans agree on helping older Americans age at home

New polling finds that a majority of Americans agree that government should find ways to help people age at home, instead of institutional settings like nursing homes.

The Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research poll showed that there’s growing bipartisan support for proposals that make staying at home longer possible.

It found that 42% of Republicans favor a government long-term care insurance program for all Americans, compared to 78% of Democrats. It brings the total support to 60%.

Another overall marker for the poll: Altogether 63% of Americans favor more funding to help low-income people age at home; and even 50% of Republicans agreed. Just 10% of respondents were opposed to it.
