Mets’ Brandon Nimmo dealing with ‘mild impingement’ in hip

Mets OF Brandon Nimmo is dealing with a “mild impingement” in his hip, and recently received a shot on Monday to deal with the pain, Luis Rojas said on Tuesday before the series opener against the Boston Red Sox.

However, Rojas still expects Nimmo to be available Tuesday night and start Wednesday.

“Last week he was dealing with the stiffness on his right hip and when we got back from Chicago, we took him for an MRI and it came back that he had a mild impingement there,” Rojas told reporters via Zoom. “He was able to play through it, he played in three games. But the decision so we don’t have to deal with this, he doesn’t have to deal with this more, is to have a shot this week knowing we were going to have the two days off.

“He took the shot yesterday. Takes about 24-to-48 hours to kinda like settle there. He’s not in the starting lineup because of those reasons, but we expect him to be available off the bench.”

With Nimmo out of the lineup on Wednesday, Jeff McNeilhas usually been leading off while Kevin Pillar takes Nimmo’s spot in center field. Francisco Lindor will be leading off on Tuesday, though, against Garrett Richards for the Sox.

Nimmo is hitting .370/.477/.500 on the season, as his hot start at the top of the lineup has been crucial in the Mets’ start.
