Fauci says U.S. nearing ‘turning point’ in pandemic with vaccinations

Federal health officials say the U.S. is nearing a turning point in the coronavirus pandemic.

Dr. Anthony Fauci thinks the country is getting close. He said in an interview yesterday that the U.S. could be weeks away from a turning point- with vaccinations increasing significantly.

The U.S. has been averaging about three million vaccinations a day. That said, a turning point doesn’t necessarily mean ‘back to normal’.

“I mean if you are waiting for classic measles-like herd immunity, that’s going to be a while before we get there,” Fauci said. “But that doesn’t mean we’re not going to have a significant diminution in the number of infections per day and a significant diminution in all of the other parameters, namely hospitalizations and deaths.”

Throughout the Finger Lakes between 40 and 60% of the population have received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.
