The Mets and Yankees will soon be able to increase their capacity for fans from the 20 percent it has been since Opening Day.
New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced Monday that spectator capacity outdoors in New York can increase to 33 percent starting on May 19.
For the Mets at Citi Field, 33 percent capacity would be roughly 14,000.
For the Yankees at Yankee Stadium, 33 percent capacity would be roughly 18,000.
However, whether the Mets and/or Yankees can actually increase capacity to 33 percent starting on May 19 is not yet known.
Per multiple reports, unless the six-foot outdoor social distancing rule in New York is lessened, the Mets would only be able to raise capacity to 22 percent while still maintaining social distancing between pods.
