Public will have another chance to hear about camping on Oak Island, economic development opportunities in Waterloo

Another public session is planned for tonight, as residents and village officials come together to discuss plans for Oak Island.

The Canal Corporation is proposing to allow 6-10 temporary platform camping sites as part of a trial run to see if ‘glamping’ could work on the property. The site would be managed by a company selected by the Canal Corp.

There has been some local opposition to the proposal. An online petition has gained hundreds of signatures since going live.

However, officials are anxious to explore this- and other economic development opportunities that could enhance travel to, and commerce around Waterloo.

The meeting will be held at the Waterloo Community Center at 7 p.m.
