Hobart men’s lacrosse falls to Saint Joseph’s in overtime, 13-12

Hobart College junior midfielder Derrek Madonna produced a career-high six points, but Saint Joseph’s University remained unbeaten in Northeast Conference play, rallying for a 13-12 win in overtime. Sophomore attackman Levi Anderson scored the game winner 1:28 into the extra session.

Madonna scored a career-high four goals on just five shots and matched his career-high for assists with a pair of helpers. Senior attackmen Tommy Mott logged three points on two goals and an assist. Senior faceoff specialist Drew Blanchard held his own against the Hawks’ junior Zach Cole, who came into the game winning nearly 70% of his faceoffs. Blanchard was 13-of-23 with a team-high six ground balls. Senior defenseman Sam Mueller matched his career-high with three caused turnovers. Sophomore goalie Kevin Holtby made 15 saves.

Senior midfielder Evan Campbell and sophomore attackman Matt Bohmer led SJU with four points apiece. Anderson finished with a hat trick. Cole was 14-of-28 at the X with a team-high six ground balls. Senior Tucker Almany made 10 saves.

Junior midfielder Bradley Simas scored his seventh goal of the season off an assist from Madonna with under seven minutes to go in regulation to give Hobart a 12-10 lead. Cole won the ensuing faceoff and senior long-stick midfielder Liam Hare scored his first goal of the season just 12 seconds later.
