Texas is expected to assume almost all of the remaining $27 million on Odor’s contract over the next two seasons. The 27-year-old was designated for assignment on March 29, and projects to serve as depth for New York.
The left-handed-hitting Odor hit .167 with 10 home runs and 30 RBIs in 38 games for Texas last season. He owns a career slash line of .237/.289/.439 (88 OPS+) in 858 big league games from 2014-20, all with the Rangers. But he has hit 30 or more home runs in a season three times in his career.
Odor has only played second base in his big league career, a position regularly manned by DJ LeMahieu, the Yankees’ most valuable player over the past two seasons.
