Yankees acquire infielder Rougned Odor from Rangers

The Yankees acquired infielder Rougned Odor from the Rangers on Tuesday in exchange for Minor League outfielders Antonio Cabello and Josh Stowers and cash considerations.

Texas is expected to assume almost all of the remaining $27 million on Odor’s contract over the next two seasons. The 27-year-old was designated for assignment on March 29, and projects to serve as depth for New York.

The left-handed-hitting Odor hit .167 with 10 home runs and 30 RBIs in 38 games for Texas last season. He owns a career slash line of .237/.289/.439 (88 OPS+) in 858 big league games from 2014-20, all with the Rangers. But he has hit 30 or more home runs in a season three times in his career.

Odor has only played second base in his big league career, a position regularly manned by DJ LeMahieu, the Yankees’ most valuable player over the past two seasons.
