State launches portal to find low cost broadband, but in most areas there’s only one option

New York State has launched a portal that helps residents find affordable, quality internet service in your community.

The portal, which Gov. Andrew Cuomo said would help families find affordable internet options- falls short of the mark.

This is why many lawmakers have been calling for more options, and thorough coverage of high speed internet.

For example, in nearly every county in the Finger Lakes- there is only one, or two options listed. Most counties only have Spectrum as an ‘affordable’ option.

Making that more problematic, is that it’s only available to households that qualify for the National School Lunch Program.
