Here come the primaries.
There will be a number of primaries this election season in Cayuga County. Like most others in the region- 2021 promises to be a busy one for local elections.
Altogether, Cayuga County will see two contested races in legislative districts, as well as seven for town-level positions.
Here’s a summary:
District #3: Republicans Jeffrey Emerson and Lydia Patti Ruffini will challenge to appear on the ballot in November. The winner will take on incumbent Democrat Ben Vitale, who is seeking re-election.
District #13: Republicans Michael Pettigrass and Brett Tracey II will challenge to appear on the ballot in November. Republican Tim Lattimore cannot run for re-election due to term limits on the legislature.
Ira Town Supervisor: Republicans Shade Cox and Daniel Haskins Jr. are challenging to appear on the ballot in November. After the primary contest there will not be a Democrat on the ticket. Unless a write-in campaign is waged over the summer and fall.
Mentz Town Supervisor: Republican Mark Emerson is going to challenge incumbent Richard Nielens Jr., for the nomination. Neilens will appear on the ballot even if he loses in the primary.
Niles Town Supervisor: Incumbent Republican Joan Jayne and challenger Bernard Juli are challenging for the nomination.
