Hundreds turn out to Corning vigil taking aim at Asian American hate crimes

A large crowd gathered in Corning on Tuesday for a candlelight vigil honoring Asian Americans who were victims of recent hate crimes.

It happened at Centerway Square and was organized by members of the community.

Those who participated said they were heartbroken by the recent events playing out across the U.S.

They were hopeful that change could come soon.

After a violent string of murders in the Atlanta-area, a 65-year-old woman was kicked in the stomach and knocked to the ground in New York City. While the attack played out- the suspect was yelling anti-Asian statements.

NBC News reports that crimes against Asian Americans are up 150% as of 2020.
