When it comes to the COVID-19 vaccine- there have been questions and challenges.
Most notably when it came to getting seniors vaccinated- travel was a challenge. Especially for those in rural communities.
That’s why AARP is calling on Gov. Andrew Cuomo to push the state in a new direction. A letter sent to state leaders this week is asking them to create a plan that allows seniors that are homebound to get vaccinated in their own home.
Even for those that aren’t absolutely homebound- in some instances, traveling hours to get a vaccine was necessary. That was a major barrier- and in some of the most rural parts of the region it remains one.
The state hasn’t announced any plans on this front, but with pressure increasing- and the crowd of eligible New Yorkers growing- it’s possible there be change on this front.
