Sheriff Brian Schenck says one person has been charged after a fatal crash on February 8.
Following a six week investigation, Sheriff Schenck says that Tristan Hope, 24, of Auburn was charged in relation to the crash that killed 52-year-old Michael Maltese, of Weedsport.
Hope was charged with one count of criminal possession of a controlled substance and criminally negligent homicide. The investigation was conducted in cooperation with the Cayuga County District Attorney’s Office and New York State Police Forensic Investigation Center in Albany. Sheriff Schenck says the Wallie Howard Jr. Center for Forensic Sciences in Syracuse was also involved.
The investigation concluded that one contributing factor to the cause of the crash was Hope’s consumption of a controlled substance.
He was processed and is being held at the Cayuga County Jail. The investigation remains active and anyone with information about it can call 315-258-3868.
