The University of Rochester is moving forward with a vaccine efficacy study on the elderly population.
Thousands have volunteered to test the COVID-19 vaccine, and according to infectious disease expert Dr. Ann Falsey, there was a demographic missing from most studies that happened over the last year.
“Very frail older people in nursing homes were not part of any of these studies,” Falsey told News10NBC. “So there’s always a concern that immunologically they may not have as a robust immune response.”
Seniors were among the first to be offered the vaccine. At this point though because of the lack of data- it’s not entirely clear how much protection it offers.
The study hopes to address that question.
