Work has started on a bridge over the Erie Canal in Wayne County.
DOT announced that the bridge carrying Lyons-Merango Rd. over the Erie Canal was closed on Monday.
It will remain closed until late this year. The entire project is costing around $7.1 million.
There are four total bridges under construction in Wayne County over the Erie Canal.
The Galloway Road over the Erie Canal in Palmyra has reopened, while the Port Gibson Road bridge, also in Palmyra, is close to completion, said Kevin Rooney, public works superintendent for Wayne County, whose agency is not involved in the bridge work, according to the FLT.
Meanwhile, the Division St. bridge in Palmyra is not expected to reopen to vehicular traffic, and will instead remain open for foot traffic.
