Two Syracuse men’s lacrosse players earn ACC honors

Syracuse swept the ACC Player of the Week honors after a 20-10 victory over Virginia on Saturday.

Brendan Curry was named ACC Offensive Player of the Week and Jakob Phaup earned ACC Defensive Player of the Week for their respective performances.

Curry set career highs with seven points and four assists allowing the offense to explode for 20 goals against the Cavaliers. He and the rest of the first-line midfield combined for eight goals and 12 points in the win.

Phaup went 22-of-33 at the faceoff X with eight ground balls against the Cavaliers. Coming into the contest, UVA faceoff man Petey LaSalla ranked second nationally in faceoff win percentage. On the season, Phaup is winning over 63-percent of restarts. He ranked fifth nationally in faceoff win percentage in the shortened 2020 season.

Phaup also was named to the USILA Team of the Week with teammate Mitch Wykoff, which honors the top-10 individual performances of the week nationally.

Syracuse hosts Vermont on Saturday at 1 p.m. on ACCNX.
