Public health officials: UK variant of COVID identified in Ontario County resident

Public health officials in Ontario County say a case of the UK variant of COVID-19 has been identified.

The Ontario County resident tested positive for the virus and a lab in New York confirmed that it was the UK variant.

“This case of COVID-19 was quickly investigated and appeared to be no different than our other cases,” public health officials said. “The individual recovered. This is not a surprise as viruses do not respect boarders. So far, 154 UK variant cases have been found in New York State.”

Officials say the presence of the UK variant does not change how it’s prevented. Wear masks, avoid crowds, wash hands, and stay home if you’re sick remain the best ways to prevent the virus.
