The Seneca7 will not be taking place in 2021.
It’s the second consecutive year that the popular race has been cancelled.
The 77.7 mile relay race around Seneca Lake that typically draws upwards of 3,000 participants was scrapped again, due to COVID-19 and slow rollout of the vaccine.
“It’s sad to have to cancel two years in a row but necessary given our primary concern with the safety of our participants and volunteers,” Jackie Augustine said of the decision. “We hoped, as everyone did, that by 2021 we’d have the pandemic in the rearview mirror and life as normal would resume … Not yet.”
While organizers considered a move to the fall for 2021 – that would have created its own list of challenges.
Now, they look forward to 2022.
