There’s a situation playing out across New York that’s making obtaining a vaccine appointment for some challenging.
It doesn’t have to do with the complicated process of signing-up for a spot, but rather the extra sign-ups that some people have stepped in line for.
What does that mean? Well, some people are booking multiple vaccine appointments, opting for those that are sooner-than-later. However, after they take an appointment that’s sooner, some are not going back and canceling old appointments. This kind of ordeal was recently profiled by News10NBC’s ‘Good Question’ segment.
Officials say those individuals must remember to cancel second, third, or forth appointment slots.
Monroe County Health Commissioner Dr. Mike Mendoza told News10NBC that officials do make calls when this is noticed, but that individuals could help speed the process up by canceling appointments themselves.
“They can look on their schedule and see the same name four times and they are calling to confirm if that’s four different people,” Dr. Mendoza said. “If they find out those appointments are no longer necessary, they have a standby list if you will to try to bring people in or they will make those appointments available again through the link.”
