Chirinos, 36, would provide a veteran presence behind the Yankees’ top options at catcher in Gary Sánchez and Kyle Higashioka. A native of Punto Fijo, Venezuela, Chirinos is entering his 10th big league season, most recently splitting time with the Rangers and Mets in 2020 after previous stops with the Rays, Rangers and Astros. Chirinos appeared in 26 games last year, slashing .162/.232/.243 with one home run in 82 plate appearances.
