With a winter storm encroaching on the Finger Lakes several schools pushed up the start times of their varsity contests on Monday night. Like most nights this season, it was an unpredictable evening of close contests on a heavy slate of games with 24 teams in action.
One of the top storylines of the night is Pal-Mac’s continued stellar play as they handed the Geneva Panthers their first loss of the season in Palmyra. Not to be outdone, the Wayne Eagles cruised over Mynderse in Seneca Falls to set-up a showdown with their northwestern Wayne County rival Red Raiders on Friday night. Both teams will also be in action again on Wednesday.
Also in the Finger Lakes East boys league, Waterloo recorded their first win at the expense of Marcus Whitman who dropped their first contest when a late comeback fell short. Penn Yan trailed Newark 24-7 early in their game at Penn Yan Academy before storming back to capture their first win of the season and sending the Reds to an 0-4 start.
In the Finger Lakes West, the Naples Big Green needed overtime to defeat rival Honeoye and snap a 21 game losing streak for the program.
In addition to Gabby Trippi of Honeoye who recorded a triple-double (20 pts, 17 reb, 10 blks) in the Lady Bulldogs win over Naples, the biggest news of the night in girls basketball was Waterloo’s road win at Midlakes keeping the Indians undefeated on the season.
