Mets, Yankees spring training starting dates announced

Major League Baseball has officially announced the spring training starting dates for all 30 teams.

Mets’ pitchers and catchers will get things started on Friday, Feb. 19, with the first full-squad workout set for Monday, Feb. 22.

The Yankees, meanwhile, will have their pitchers and catchers report by Wednesday, Feb. 17, while the full squad will take the field for the first time on Feb. 22 as well.

On Tuesday, MLB and the Players’ Association agreed a deal on health and safety protocols for spring training and the regular season. Seven-inning doubleheaders will once again take place, and teams will once again start all extra innings with a runner on second base.

The universal DH, however, is still to be determined.

Still, both New York teams have plenty of reasons to feel optimistic heading into the new season. The Mets acquired superstar Francisco Lindor along with other key names such as James McCann, Carlos Carrasco, and Trevor May.

The Yankees, meanwhile, bolstered an already loaded team with the additions of Jameson Taillon and Corey Kluber in the starting rotation while bringing back perennial MVP candidate DJ LeMahieu, the club’s top offseason priority.

All things considered, the 2021 MLB season figures to be an intriguing one for both Big Apple teams.
