Geneva American Legion will be taken off the market, renovations to begin this year

The American Legion located on Lochland Rd. in Geneva is off the market.

In an announcement over the weekend, the membership approved taking the property off the market. Only one person voted against the measure.

“Also approved as we’re staying put is upgrading and putting money into improving the first floor ie; lounge area, kitchen, hallway, banquet hall and rest rooms,” leadership wrote in a Facebook post. “Work will include many cosmetic projects such as fresh paint throughout first floor and new lounge tables and chairs The bar will see some repairs to it in plumbing issues and replacing some old equipment. The basement is targeted for some mechanical work on heating system and plumbing. The kitchen will see some new equipment upgrades that are long over due with equipment that has long seen it day and always working on borrowed time.”

They say that focus for now will be on the first floor, as well as some tree trimming around the property. “Trees being removed will give members and Guests a much wider view of Seneca Lake and some trees being removed due to being dead or causing damage to our roof being to close to building,” leaders added. “The cost of staying put here in our current post home will be expensive however we feel a few years of TLC and renovating will be well worth it as this property is beyond awesome.”

They plan to start a GoFundMe to help with expenses as the post looks to stay open.
