Deputies: Canandaigua man received housing benefits he wasn’t entitled to after girlfriend moved in

The Ontario County Sheriff’s Office reports the arrest of a 38-year-old Canandaigua man following an investigation into assistance being received through the Geneva Housing Authority.

Jason DeWaters, 38, of Canandaigua was charged with fourth-degree grand larceny after his girlfriend moved into his residence, and he failed to notify GHA of his household income change.

As result he received $3,624 in public benefits of which he was not entitled.

An appearance ticket was issued. The charge will be answered at a later date, but deputies indicated that additional charges are pending.
