Newark police ask residents to keep car doors locked after string of thefts

The Newark Police Department is warning residents about a number of stolen vehicles.

In total eight vehicles have been stolen since October. Five of them were taken while running unattended at local gas stations or parking lots. Two others were taken while unlocked with the keys inside.

The thefts have mostly happened during the overnight hours, according to police, who are warning residents to keep their doors locked.

They also are encouraging residents to make sure there are no valuables inside their vehicles.
