RIT men’s hockey beats Canisius 3-2 for second straight win

RIT sophomore forward Caleb Moretz (Fairbanks, Alaska) totaled a goal and an assist while junior forward Will Calverley (Scarborough, Ontario) scored a goal to lead the Tigers past visiting Canisius, Saturday, in Atlantic Hockey action at the Polisseni Center.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Parked in front of the right post, Calverley re-directed a shot by senior forward Nick Bruce (Fall River, Nova Scotia/Johnstown Tomahawks) from the point past Canisius junior goalie Matt Ladd to open the scoring 1:14 into the contest.

Ladd sticked down a shot by Moretz from the right point, but junior forward Andrew Petrucci (Toronto, Ontario)buried the rebound inside a wide-open left post to put RIT up, 2-0, with 3:24 left in the first period.

The Tigers notched a power-play goal with 1:24 on the clock to take a 3-0 lead into the first intermission. RIT cycled the puck around the Canisius zone and down the right flank where senior forward Jake Hamacher (Corona, Calif.) threaded a pass through a crowd in front of Ladd to Moretz for a one-timer inside the left post.
