Geneva business will take food scraps, turning them into fertilizer

There’s a Geneva company looking to make an environmental splash with a business that will capitalize on food waste.

Closed Loop Systems will operate the facility on Doran Ave. Jacob Fox, the CEO of Closed Loop Systems, told The Canandaigua Messenger that two 100-foot-long trenches and related facilities at 41 Doran Ave. are about ready to go in processing tons of organic waste.

Users of the facility will be able to exchange a bucket of food scraps for a a bucket of ‘black gold’, as Fox calls it. That nutrient-rich organic fertilizer will be great for farming and gardening.
