Syracuse got its first win over a nationally-ranked team with a convincing 78-60 victory over No. 16 Virginia Tech on Saturday at the Carrier Dome.Syracuse led 40-34 at halftime and opened up the lead with a 20-6 run midway through the second half.
Quincy Guerrier led Syracuse with 20 points and nine rebounds, while Alan Griffin notched his fourth double-double of the season with 15 points and 10 boards. Griffin also had a career-high seven blocks.
Syracuse’s last win over a ranked team was a 63-55 overtime win over Virginia on Jan. 11, 2020.
The win improved Syracuse’s record to 9-4 overall and 3-3 in the ACC. Virginia Tech, which had won seven of its previous eight games, dropped to 11-3 and 5-2 in the conference.

GAME PREVIEW:
Syracuse will play two top-20 teams in a span of three days, starting with No. 16/14 Virginia Tech on Saturday, Jan. 23. The teams will tip off at 12 p.m. in the Carrier Dome.
Syracuse (8-4, 2-3) snapped a two-game losing streak with an 83-57 victory against Miami on Tuesday night. Junior Buddy Boeheim and sophomore Joseph Girard III each scored 23 points to lead the Orange. Combined, the two sharp shooters were 9-for-17 from 3-point range.
Virginia Tech enters Saturday’s game in second place in the ACC with a 5-1 record in conference play. The Hokies have won three in a row to improve their record to 11-2.
Syracuse leads the all-time series with Virginia Tech, 10-5. The squads split the two meetings last season, with both teams winning on the other’s home court. The Hokies defeated Syracuse, 67-63, in the Dome before the Orange returned the favor with a 71-69 victory in Blacksburg. Boeheim led Syracuse with a career-high 26 points in the win.
