Local entrepreneur reflects on local development of Rheonix COVID test

Entrepreneur Greg Galvin was the 2014 Cornell Entrepreneur of the Year. He’s the founder of the company Rheonix, which is an Ithaca-based biotech company.

His COVID-19 test is the one that enabled Cayuga Health System to open one of the first drive-thru testing sites in the U.S. His company produced the fully-automated, same-day test for the coronavirus.

“The sense of urgency was apparent and the need was personal for everyone at the company,” Galvin told the Finger Lakes Times. “But also this ability to develop a product, put it out in our local community and create immediate benefits,” he added. “I think it really helped motivate people.”

This particular test is also one of the most-accurate – ranking fourth out of tests available.
