Police in Elmira are investigating after a home invasion in the city.
It happened on West Henry Street on Sunday a little before 7:30 p.m. Officers responded to a home in the 200 block for the report of a person who had been shot.
That person, who was in fact shot, was transported to a local hospital.
Witness reports indicated that two suspects entered the home and displayed weapons. They robbed the home and when the suspects were leaving – the victim who was shot tried to stop them.
The shooting occurred during a struggle. The victim was in the hospital still as of Monday.
One person fled on foot. The other fled in a vehicle. Police said they attempted to stop the vehicle, but it took off. After a brief pursuit – the vehicle crashed. The driver fled the scene and was not found.
