Students in Auburn are pushing to change the name of its high school to celebrate one of the most-important figures in American history.
A student representative on the Board of Education in the Auburn Enlarged City School District brought up the idea at a meeting this week.
Jane Oliver, daughter of Junior High School Principal David Oliver, suggested the idea as a way to celebrate the city’s rich history.
“We know that this name change will not be immediate or solve the systemic issues within our society, but we hope that it will start a conversation,” she said during the meeting.
