On Monday the Steuben County Public Health Department took to Facebook to defend its situation, as residents began calling up to schedule appointments to get vaccinated.
Last week Governor Andrew Cuomo announced that Phase 1B of vaccine rollout would begin on Monday. However, officials in Steuben say they have no vaccine to distribute and that residents should stop calling them to schedule appointments.
“We have requested vaccine from the state but do not have approval or vaccine in hand from them at this time,” they said in the post. “As soon as we have vaccine to distribute we will be setting up clinics for the community and will share the information on how to register.”
When that changes, officials say they will let the public know. In addition to healthcare workers, first responders and teachers were also expected to be part of this phase of vaccination.
“Please do not call our office or email us about scheduling your vaccination at this time. We do not have a link or any way to register currently,” the department concluded.
