Man threatened victim inside Ithaca Wegmans, hate crime charges filed after investigation

The Ithaca Police Department is investigating an incident that happened at the Wegmans on S. Meadow Street as a hate crime.

Police said in a press release that they responded to the Wegmans supermarket after a person was threatened in a bathroom.

The victim reported being in the bathroom at Wegmans when a male subject, later identified as Adam House, 35, of Ithaca entered and began yelling at him.

House then punched the bathroom stall and started screaming threats, which included racial slurs. Police say that House also threatened to kill the victim.

He was taken into custody without further incident. Police say the two did not know each other prior to this incident.

House was processed and charged with aggravated harassment as a hate crime. No order of protection was requested by the victim, so the suspect was released on an appearance ticket.

The charges will be answered in City Court.
